I'd go with whatever they have in the mis-tint area!!! I have all kinds of colors of good paint from that section, neon green to psychotic pink!!
All stacks are now 3 tires high. If I had started on time for my area they would have been 4 by now I believe. I can't wait to dissassemble and see how successfull it has been.
OK the only thing I can say now is I want more room for gardening!! LOl I have plans to tear up more of my backyard for gardening~ I can't believe how much fun it is and to see the reward of everything we can produce on our own property! What a lesson it is for my children, they thought food only came from the grocery store
I know it's all safe and organic no chemical soaked fruits and vegetables on this property. And pretty soon my darling chickens will start producing eggs~ I think the farmer in me is just busting free
Here are some pics~ From Beginning to Now!
This was my first time ever growing a vegetable garden... So I didn't want to dig up too much area~
These garden itself is approximately 40 feet in length and about 5.5 feet wide... I will definately widen this later and dig out more of the back and use all that (unused) space! Haha
The Garden Now!
This is a Full View looking up from the bottom of my slope
Pumpkins and Corn
Pumpkins, Watermelon and Cantalope
This is the Cantalopes and some of the cucumbers from the next garden bed
Cucumbers
Lima Beans and Radishes
Herbs~ Mint and Italian Parsley
Romaine and Butterhead Lettuce Mix
Broccoli and Brussel Sprouts
Beets and Cabbage (Cabbage is starting to be attacked by something~ pesky bugs!)
Squash~ Snow Peas ~ Red Cabbage
Banana Beppers ~ Eggplants ~ Bell Peppers
Tomato Plants ~ Asparagus ~ Carrots
Carrots
Big ole Cherry Tomato Plant!
I also have a bunch of potato's growing but I need to add some more compost, leaves, and soil to them~ I actually didn't realize they get so Tall!! So I need to work on those and I can get more pics of those. I was actually watering by them and washed some of the dirt away from the base of the plants and there were all these potatoes growing!! I got really excited but then realized I needed to add more dirst on top! I learn as I go that's for sure
I'm so excited about this Gardening Thread!! Thanks for making it

What a great first year you are having! You will have learned so much by the end, and I bet you can't wait to do it differently or another way next year! That's how it goes for all of us every year
As for your cabbage, they are so tasty that they almost always have those little holes eaten in them. They are perfectly safe to eat down the road and will grow quite large despite this. Try shaving off a few pieces of Ivory soap into a squirt bottle and fill with hot water. Allow the little pieces of soap to dissolve, then spray your cabbages, or any other plant being eaten up for that matter. It is an excellent natural solution to pesticides. Make sure to repeat after heavy rain. Get your kids in on it, they will love "shooting" the plants with bug zapper.
I have 1/4 acre set aside for a garden. My wife wants to do intensive / sqft gardening. I have read where several people say it is for small scale and the size garden space I have is too large for it. Any thoughts on why this would be? Is it too much work or resources?
krcote ~ Thanks! Yes I am having lots of fun learning as I go and yes there are bunches of new ideas of what I would do differently! And I'm definately going to make it Bigger!! Probably widen it another 2 feet and then also catti corner the garden in the back and use up even more of the back there for gardening. I definately think I over stuffed my garden with goodies~ Haha So now I'm exploring some vertical gardens methods to incorporate into my garden this year. I will try what you said about the hot water and ivory soap- and I'm sure the kids would love squirting stuff! I don't use any pesticides in the yard and I am always trying new organic remedies!. I've got to work on my potato garden I didn't realize how tall the sprouts get so I need to but alot more dirt and leaves in and definately put a border around them to hold it all back~ (that I will do differently next year!) But it is fun! ~ What kinds of variety of foods do you grow? See I'm going to start working on planning out a fall crop to~ I swear I never get bored~ wait let me rephrase.... I never "let" myself get bored!!!
You know if anyone has encountered this... My eggplant sprouts looks terrible and I have spritzed them to try and keep the pests off but I do keep seeing a really tiny black beetle on a leaf here and there (then I smush it
) and I think it is eating tiny holes in the leaves~ also I don't know if it's also because of the super hot sun so far this year if maybe it prefers a little more shade. It seems like the eggplant and the cabbage are high on the menu for these bugs this year! Just thought I'd ask if there were any eggplant growers on this thread if you had any advice!
PS will be trying the ivory soap and water method later...
