Squatting before laying

Hi Southernchick,

I have 3 SLW's and one EE (who is colored like a SLW, but has green legs and an EE head... there was a late-night bootycall at my breeder's henhouse!). They are 25 weeks old and I have been getting eggs from one hen for about 3 weeks, and green eggs from the EE for about one week.

I don't have a rooster. They will all be celibate for life!

It is cool though to be able to pick them up. A third one just started the squat and letting me pet her, so maybe she's about to begin laying.

Mine are 18 weeks and it has been such a joy to finally pick them up again! I hadn't held the Wyandotte for weeks and weeks. Still can't get near the leghorns; I pity the roo that has to try to mount a leghorn (we have no roo and ours, too, will be celibate).

Does this last? If they are going to lay for years do we get the benefit of them always being ready to breed? Say it's so, puuuuleeeez.
