When we first integrated our new flock (with a cockerel), some of the older girls squatted for him (especially the BRs, those hussies!), and he started learning. Now, a month or so later, they just run away from him. Granted, his technique isn't very romantic (especially in the morning) and he's got some maturing to do. But I wondered whether squatting could be seasonal, since a hen might be programmed to try to avoid laying fertile eggs when they'll hatch in the dead of winter. Has anyone else noticed that their hens squat less in these early winter months? Could be they just realized he's a klutz and they want no part of him, and he's too young and stupid so far to do anything about it.
Thanks!
