I went out tonight to make sure everyone got inside to go to bed on time. Since we gave the babies to Esther, she has been keeping them pretty much in the nesting box close by her all snuggled up.
They will be 5 weeks old on Monday.
I snapped my fingers like always and they all ran up the ramp to go inside. (Yes all my girls are trained when I snap and point at the door, they go inside...don't know how but it works lol and the babies are picking it up as well
My husband laughs...says they know who the boss is
) I figured I would check the food and water, and put the melon they didnt finish inside the coop so they could have in the morning. I glanced over at the nesting boxes and...no babies. No Esther. Empty.
I turned my head and saw 10 beady little sets of chicken eyes looking at me from the ROOST!!! My babies are roosting with the grownups !!
I was so surprised.... guess we will be doing the roost revamp faster than we had planned lol They look so proud of themselves tho...
Esther popped down to see what I was doing, and all the babies followed suit. She hopped back up on the roost, did the little "come here" noise she makes, and one by one up they hopped and snuggled in on the roost next to Mercedes and Momma Esther. Mercedes looks sooo happy atm having friends on her roost so she isnt alone anymore
We are so blessed to have such GOOD birdies, and Esther is above and beyond the best Mom we could have asked for
They are getting so big tho.... Chrissy <White Plymouth Rock>, and the two BO's are already starting to show the puffy bloomers on their legs lol And two of the EE look like they will be a GORGEOUS lavender-grey and rust colour...absolutely lovely. The other EE looks like she wil be a lighter version of Mercedes... a kind of wheaten pattern to her atm. The Australorpes are starting to fill out and lose the bits of white on their feathers...
I LOVE my birdies!!!
