Is this normal to happen sometimes

It happens more often with new layers and sometimes when established layers are stressed.
How old is the gas that laid it?
What exactly are you feeding?
New hen she eats layer pellets she is also a meat bird

It often used to happen with my hens. Especially when they were new layers. They often end up splitting in the nesting box and the chickens eat the egg so it can start problems with the chickens eating their own eggs. Other than that there's not really any problem with the chickens laying them. You could add crushed egg shell or oyster shells to their feed to improve the shell strength
