SRSLY--What The Heck IS This Thing? Pics from 3 days to 8 wks old

Right now, the coloring matches the "cuckoo" coloring of a few different breeds, but that doesn't help me know what this one will be when it's older. So I guess I'm still waiting a while, huh?

Those earlobes look white too me. Just not prominent because he is still young. My leghorns earlobes are finally getting nice and white and he is 13 weeks old. I agree that your cockerel is a Silver Leghorn. He will be Dashing in a few more weeks.

Then my next question is, What in the world am I gonna do with him?

I don't remember telling the hatchery that I wanted an "extra" chick, but there he is. I certainly don't want any cross-breeding with my Buff Orps, and I already intend to keep a couple of BO roosters...I guess I could let him hang out with the Americauna/EEs?

If it is a Silver Leghorn, that is a bantam?

Usually you have to tell the hatcheries that you don't want the extra chick, otherwise they will assume you want it.

I would let him hang out with the EEs. I think he is going to be very pretty once he matures.

I do not think he is a bantam. I think he is standard, leghorns are small chickens, especially compared to your BOs.

I hope the pic i sent helped....I'm 95% sure it is a silver leghorn............and i don't know if you free range or not....but the leghorn roo's i had in the past were great watchdogs!!!!

I think what yuo're looking at is the ear itself-the lobe is the red behind the ear. In my experience a leghorn cockerel should be showing a white lobe at that age-however, my experience doesn't include any hatchery leghorns so I may be wrong in this case.

Good lord, that Silver Leghorn is a pretty bird!

The hardest thing about being a new chicken person is that EVERY chicken I see looks fabulous. How on earth did this happen to me?

Ninjalpoodles, I hope you can id your bird once and for all. He's cute!
