~~~SSA Hatching Thread 2011~~~
I have a 2.5 x 3 foot wooden one that the first hatch is in right now. There are only 12 left, but these sussex grow REALLY fast! i want to move them to the smaller brooder. The next bator has 43 eggs going very strong.
Then the week later the other bator still has over 60 in it...If even most of them hatch I will not have enough room.
When do you guys put them in the barn with a heat lamp?
The ones that grow faster (BLRW and EE) go out as soon as they have pretty well feathered out. The Silkies and the Polish will probably stay in the house until it warms up and they go out to their coops because we like having them in the house and have found they are much calmer the more they are around us.
What C. said politely is, the freakazoids need more human interaction so they only stay freakzoids by sight not by attitudes!
She has stunning birds! (I cancelled my order...I may live to regret it!
No, knowing my luck there'd be more freaky showgirl eggs than the nice cuddly silkies. Although, I could always give the showgirls to Momma....
Like when someone asks me if I want some cake, and I say no. Of course I want some! I just want lots! I'm pretty sure that's what we have going on here. Momma wants lots of Silkies!
All 6 Wheaten Ameraucanas hatched! Number 7 died shortly after breaking through the inner membrane.
Every single Lavender Ameraucana hatched! A whopping 11!
1/1 Silver Ameraucana hatched.
2/2 Lav/Wellie (OE's) hatched.
3/3 BCM's hatched.
1/1 BCM/Am (OE) hatched.
The Lav/NH was a quitter around day 16 and the Buff Ameraucana died after pipping through the inner membrane (just like the Wheatie) .
So out of 29 eggs, 27 went into lockdown and 24 hatched! Not bad for a cheapo bator!!!
