Staining the fencing

Hello all!
We just got a brand new fence around our backyard, and I'm wondering if it's safe to stain it with the chickens. We are planning to stain the fence, and then keep the chickens in their run for 3-4 days so they can't get to the fence. Is that okay?

Unless your chickens are likely to try eating the fence, I doubt their ranging near it is a problem. The outdoors is noted for being well-ventilated, and if the stain were toxic enough to hurt a chicken who's merely walking in proximity to it, you shouldn't have it near your house.

Are you worried about them eating drips off the ground and grass, or something else?

Eating drips and just wondering if the fumes will affect them since their coop/run is quite close to the fence, withing 8 feet or so.

Try to get a paint or stain that's low VOCs and that should help cut down on the fumes. Once it's dry it should be chicken safe.
