I was thinking about getting some standard size black cochins from Mcmurray hatchery. Has anyone purchased these birds from them and if so, could you post pictures so I can see what they look like grown up?

I received a black cochin as my free exotic from MMM. She/he is only 2 weeks old but I would be happy to keep you posted with her/his development.

I've not purchased the Black Cochins from Murray McMurray, but years ago I purchased some Buff Cochins from them and was very happy with their birds and service. Cochins are a great breed; beautiful, calm and gentle (great lap pets), and great brooders and mothers. Their only downside is they are not very good layers.

Thank you for the info! And, I would love to stay posted on your chick's development. As for cochins, I love them. (haha, my username explains it well enough). So thank you again!

I'm happy to share! We ordered a two dozen Black Jersey Giants and it was such a pleasant surprise to recieve the Cochin. They look vary similar as chicks and despite her being smaller than the others she holds her own and is such a darling. Function is very important for us, we are trying to live in a self-sufficiant way and chose the Jersey Giants for being a dual purpose meat/egg layer that is know to go broody from time to time. Having a Cochin will enable us to really have a chance at hatching baby chicks the natural way as I've heard alot of information regarding the excellent mothering skills of Cochins. I'll post a new pic here in just a couple days, she has already begun to grow in her wing tips. ^_^

Good on you for being more self sufficient. I'm a major believer in this too, Non GMOs, and eat very healthy. The only chicken my family eats are our eggs and our chicken meat. We also have a garden in the spring -autumn for fresh veggies.

Are those your hens in the stylish vests by chance?

Picture of Cochin today. Feet look almost webbed with feathers!

Thank you! He/she's a cutie! (Well, really thy all are) And no these chickens in my avatar aren't mine, my really "attractive" hens do walk around in saddles though.
