Stands like a penguin, not eggbound....what can it be? Help?

This was not a stuck egg. It was internal laying. This is a different condition. There was no shell formed in that mass. The egg mass was internall "slow cooked" and resembled boiled egg.

Yeah like my lemon and her having what looked like pieces of cooked egg in her poops. It's sad when that happens. If I knew another one had it, next time I will put the hen down right off the bat rather then waiting.

fiddlebanshee, sorry for you loss, I wish now I would of done a necropsy on my RIR Sarah last year, I never could figure out what was wrong with her.

I would like to put her back out in the coop but no way to put a dog kennel in it and can't put up any fencing to separate her. She sure does seem to want to go back in there though, every time I walk by the kennel in the house she comes walking over to the door like she's ready to go.

Can you just screen off a portion with chicken wire, and give her her own food and water? That should work too.

ETA: oh duh, I should have read your entire post before responding. Oh well, then she just will need to get used to being by herself. The only other thing I can thnk of is to put some shelter up in the run separate from your coop, where she can still communicate with the other chickens. You know, like rig up a dog crate with some plywood over it to keep out rain and wind?

If it was in the abdominal cavity is was a result of internal laying, but if it was in the uterus it was a stuck egg. Either way, masses that large are dectable with a cloacal exam.
