Start laying soon?

Hey all, my pullets are all around 6 months old. (I got them at about 3 months from a guy who said they were all born the first week of Dec) Anyway, the cockerels are beginning ro mate them, a couple I have seen lay down, most try to run away. My question is if they are mating does rhat mean they will start to lay soon? I am impatiently waiting for that first egg! I have a sussex, a salmon faverolle, blue andallusion and 3 rhode island reds.

It's my experience they do start laying around 6 months

Onset of lay for most breeds is 18-28 weeks.
Some start earlier, some later.

A cockerel mating a pullet, and that pullet is submitting, it might be a sign that she is close to laying, if that cockerel has the 'skill' to leave immature pullets alone.
Many cockerels try to jump everything.

I had a partridge rock that hatch in March of 2017, but didn't lay her first egg until Jan 2018, but she had all the signs, red comb, submitting to mating, squatting... I didn't even realize she hadn't been laying until she finally did.
