Started a new MONSTER coop this weekend

Today was "chicken door" and "roosts" day. I still need to put the latch on the door, but the paint's wet right now.

In my current coop, the ramp itself is the door, and it folds down. That's a huge pain in the butt, so on this coop I decided to make the ramp fixed and have the door swing open. Much nicer to deal with, especially in the rain.

The roosts in this coop are completely different, too. In the current coop, they're fixed in place, and I bang my head on them all the time. In the new coop, I built movable roosts. These roosts fold up, and aren't mounted to anything at all, so when it's time to clean I can just take them out of the coop. No more head-banging, unless I'm listening to some rock. I also left plenty of room for me to walk around the roosts:

There are 96 feet of roost space on those two stands, and I can up that if I want to by rearranging them and/or making them taller.

So far I'm pretty pleased. The only thing I have left to do is build the nest boxes and storage. I should be able to do a good bit of that after work this week (I think; with the time change it gets dark around 5:00 now).

Nice coop, but man are you wasting all that space with those roosts you made. And to clean that puppy out you will either have to move them all out or fight around them trying to get all the liter up.

you could have made folding roosts with all those 2x4's mounted to the wall. If you used bracing triangles you could fold them down, then when you wanted to clean you could fold them up flat against the wall.

I just see all that space going to waste.

So what part of tn do you live in? Over near Chattanooga?

You might want to consider have a removable box that your roosts sit in. I've done that for several coops and it works great. It catches 90% of the droppings. You can even cover it with wire to keep the birds out of it. Then when it needs to be emptied you only have to clean the box not the entire coop.
