Starter/layer hens and pullets

How bout it, all you knowledgable chicken folk out there? Can you give us some concrete facts to support this theory we keep hearing over and over when this question arises.

Laying mash/feed bad...just bad...no facts provided as to the details and studies to prove this....its just bad to feed to youngsters.

Forgive us our skepticism but we would like to hear some facts and perimeters before we just take someone's word for it.

I had the same problem. I feed Purina brand (not my first choice, but what is readily available). I called Purina directly and spoke with a nutritionist there, who recommended Flock Raiser for me. I switched mine to Flock Raiser at 12 weeks (the youngest) - they are still on it, and I believe the oldest is 24 weeks now. One just began to lay, so I'll move her to my layer pen where she'll have free-choise layer feed.

It's hard to plan for the integration of different age birds, and for me, the Flock Raiser was the answer. Good luck!
