How much starter feed should I buy per chick? I don't want to have loads leftover, but would like to get the best economy possible

There's a table in the back of Robert Plamondon's chick book that says basically (this is for layer chicks, not meat chicks, btw, and I assume it figures in some sort of wasted-feed factor):

each chick will eat ~1 lb from hatching til 1 month
or not quite 4 lbs from hatchiing til 2months
or not quite 8 lbs from hatching til 3 months.

FWIW, my 19, formerly 20, went through the first 50-lb bag (well, I *think* it was 50 lbs, now I'm not sure, I will check in a few minutes) in exactly 3 weeks, although that's with a WHOLE BIG LOT of waste.

    Hope this helps somewhat,
