Hello! I would just like to know how many egg chickens you would need to turn a profit. I am a 12 year old and born on a farm in Louisiana. My dad agreed to pay for water, electricity ( It gets cold here in the winter!) ,fencing, and supplies for coops. I have to pay for feed and feeders and water containers. If you could help me it would be great. Thanks!
Just so you don't get confused, this is my dad's account, he just let me ask a question.

I think you will need to do some reading on this site to answer those questions, because those are a lot of factors to consider. You may want to consider making DIY feeders and waterers to save money and think about making the coop out out of some recycled materials, too as long as you can figure out how to do it so it is a secure coop. Try searching the forum on specific topics by using the search function at the top of the page. Find threads with posts about selling eggs, and ask questions on those threads to get info from people who have experience. Also think about how you are going to sell the eggs and how many people might be interested in buying eggs from you.

Thanks for the reply! We sell at a farmers market where a dozen eggs go for five dollars where attendance is over one thousand and we have a portable coop design that works great ( and is also cheap). Thank you for the advice about the feeders and waterers I will definitely look in to them. We will actually be going to a farm to look at a 100 chicken operation soon.
