(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, I am raising my first chicks now.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
5 (hopefully all hens)

(3) What breeds do you have?
A Barred Rock, an Amerucana, a Buff Orpington, a Rhode Island Red, and an Australorp.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love the idea of homesteading and becoming self-reliant, so getting chickens is a major step forward to my goal.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I ride horses and care lease a horse, and I love to read and garden.


If anyone could give me some advice on sexing 5ā€“6-week-old Barred Rock, Amerucana, Buff Orpington, Rhode Island Red, or Australorp chicks, or anything else it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am building a really nice coop with the Third Coast Craftsman coop plans, so our chickens will have a secure place to live.
 
Welcome in! If you're looking for gender guesses, post photos of their combs and where the back meets the tail.

We also have the plans from third coast craftsman! It's a nice build, but the run could definitely be a bit larger, IMO. I do like the coop a lot.
