Congrats to everyone who are trying to quit. I am a resp. therapist and work in pulmonary rehab twice a week. A lot of our PT are COPD/emphysema PT. They always say they wish they would have known 30-40 yrs ago what was going to happen.
We teach our PT who are having trouble or relapsed to change your routine. If you notice yourself using at certain time (like the stop sign at the end of the street or after dinner) to change your routine. Take a different route to wear you don't stop at that particular sign.
Also a lot of time's finding something to keep your hands busy (paper clip in pocket, stress ball, etc) helps you get over the urge. Studies show if you can wait 5 mn after an urge it, you will forget about.
A lot of our PT keep hard candies in their pockets and pop one of those when they have an urge.
Hope that helps. I love educating about the lungs and disease processes that affect them!
Well we're on day 4 (hubby is holding on strong!) and so far no smokes.... today some friends came over to help work on our house with us, and they were smoking around us. We didn't budge on the smoking at all. So we're doing pretty good...
Still getting urges, but keeping super busy instead.
My mother joined a community gym/pool thing that has daycare services, 3 pools indoors and out.... plus a full gym including instructors and dietitions to help people. She went ahead and paid the extra $70 a month for me to join with my daughter and husband!!!
We'll start over there asap with the swimming and using the gym to help us keep busy. I think now is a good time to set a goal of losing 10lbs to add to the fun of it!!!
OH, and I went to some gambling thing last night they have set up in town (how its legal, I don't know) I played some online slots and won $100.... so I put that money, and my none-smoking cigerette pack cash away for my 30th birthday next month. My mother is going to take my daughter for the whole weekend and hubby and I are going to the beach for a whole 3 days, alone.... and I'm hoping for a NICE beachhouse to rent or an ocean view hotel room would be lovely too.
I must smile, for I saw myself breaking LONG before now... and here I am going strong!!!
I am not the best person for working out. I go on a lot of walks with my daughter in the neighborhood, and we run around the yard A LOT. My gardening gets pretty physical as well.
Even though I bake a LOT (cakes, cookies, muffins, breads...ect) I don't eat as much. I'm pretty healthy with a mainly vegitarian diet.
This will be for fun for sure.
I am having a craving right now, and I'm trying to hold out as much as I can. Good things its pouring rain, makes me NOT want to go out at all. But I do have to go get the mail and buy some stamps... I'm out!
