I haven't tired this yet, but I went to visit a master breeder of exhibition poultry and this is what he told me to do.

Buy two pairs of birds. Make sure that in the mix of the two pairs, there are all the points of a perfect bird. You can't get them out if they are not in there first.

Then I am to mate both hens to the same male, the first year. Mate the daughters of those matings to the other male.

From there on select the birds as good mates for each other. Mate anything together you want to, ECEPT, parent/child and full brother sister.

He told me to get to 3/4 of a male ( if I want to ) it is better to mate two hens to him, then mate the half siblings, and then mate those back to the original male.

Sounds simple compared to some of the plans out there. He says any features that you don 't want kill the birds and their parents.

anyone else breed like this? I am going to try it!

no ideas or feedback?

i completely understand what ur trying to do as in making the perfect show strain. A good friend of ours does this type of breeding. However, its with gamefowl and for no other reason than to keep their bloodlines around and to correct their reputation. Anyways, like the johnny jumper kelso....you would take two pair but from different places to insure that genes were not as close but did have everything u wanted in a bird. You would then breed the two hens to the roo with the strongest traits. Out of those babies keep the hens with the strongest traits you seek out of their parents. Then breed those hens to the other roo. There will be lots of babies but more chances of getting exactly what u want in a show bird. Plz plz plz do not kill any of the others...try to find them homes or donate them to someone. If there are characteristics or physical traits you do not wish to be repeated remove any of those from your flock. Someone or something that already has a job to do before birth has already done one favor for us so the favor we can do for them is seeing they are safe.

That sounds like the very same plan, and ideas! That is amazing. I don't agree with fighting cocks, but those guys seem to really know about breeding. Many of them make their living off their birds.

I agree...game fights are horrible and something that should be dealt with alot more severely than it is. Our buddy has soo many different lines of gamefowl. I have some duke hulsey grey eggs in the bator now and im very excited to see them! I will post pics of the as soon as they are fluffed and rested :)
