Starting a small egg laying flock, can I mix-and-match hens or should I go all one breed?

Hi everyone, I'm excited that I will soon be a flock master!

I'm thinking about starting out with four to eight hens and would like to include some of these:

Buff/Blue Orpington
Black Australorp
Barred Rock
Blue Cochin
Golden/Silver Laced Wyandotte

They will all start out at the same age. Is it OK to mix my hens or would it be better to have fewer types?

It should be fine to mix the breeds you mentioned above. Some breeds are better not mixed but I would think those will be fine. Congratulations on your new chickens and I think they will bring you great joy!

Thanks, looking forward to getting them!

I tried to pick from the docile breeds I've read about and I was concerned about the Orpintons being too docile and getting picked on by some of the others.
