Starting chicks on greens and/or....need some advice please

Each one of our 3 brooders has a box of sand in it. I have been giving the 4 wk old chicks beet and swiss chard leaves for a wk or two. I give them the whole leaf...they rip them up..does not take long...usually they leave the beet stems but often eat a large part of the wide white stems on the Swiss Chard. I have begun to offer the 2 wk old BO chicks the same greens. Just put the sandbox in the 6 day old chicks' brooder so will be offering them some soon.

If they were allowed to free range in my garden they would eat these greens plus the strawberries, etc., etc.

This way I can control what I share with them

I have washed sandbox sand in my grand daughter's sand box. It is chemical free. Is this okay to use for the chickies?
