Starting out, MANY questions

Well, did a bunch of work in the barn today... Removed obs panels and reversed them so the clean side is facing forwards, opened up the second front door that was screwed closed and probably hadn't moved in 10-15 years, removed insulation that housed some critters at some point... Moved a whole bunch more stuff out. And then found pretty extensive water damage. 😭 Will just do my best to fix and contain and it'll have to do for 2 more years. A bit of a downer after all that work, for sure.... And of course it's on the last wall I checked! Go figure. 🙄 Anyhow... Making progress. There's a few warmer (5c +) days coming up this weekend so want to have everything emptied out so I can start to paint the floor and maybe the side panels.

For now I'm tired 😁😂

I've been quiet for some time, but figured people may enjoy an update? (.. Or not...) finished painting the floor, replacing insulation, patching up sections of damaged wall, building roosts and poop boards.. Can't get pdz for the foreseeable future, so for the summer will just have scrapable poop boards, and in winter I will put large trays with sand on top. Couldn't get the rubber paint (out of stock and not in stock until mid April... And that was before the Corona virus!) so just got deck paint. Will do deep litter, buying the shavings tomorrow.

We started construction on the run, which was hard work... Clearing snow/ice first of all, which was a pain... But we're getting somewhere now.

Still need to put ventilation holes all over the walls (will be using a large round saw bit) and craft hardware cloth screens for the windows. Any advice on those holes with an insulated wall?

I saw a pic this morning that the first chicks have hatched so I'm expecting a text pretty soon to come and get some chicks 😁

One of my longer term plans are an outside rain barrel that'll funnel to drinking nipples (for the warmer months at least)

Phew... Can't wait!!

Did you figure out what's making the stain on the ceiling?
Will you remove ceiling?
Yeah there's a leak we patched. The roof/entire building is in rough shape, so we're just dealing with what we got for the next year or two, we will then build a new coop/repurpose the run and tear this thing down. Not worth putting much more money into it. 🤷‍♀️ And they put it in an awful location! It blocks the best view of the entire property. 🤦‍♀️ The floor sags really bad on the right side of the building, pretty sure the supports are rotting away from under it (for now it's still safe though, from what we can tell)

Oof that would make me nervous. Hope it all holds up without issue until you're ready to tear it down! (I say that as someone who has been waiting to tear an old shed down for the last 2 years, and I know there's water damage in there now, so scared to go in and look at all).

No worries it's not to that point yet, and the chickens themselves really shouldn't weigh it down much. 😊 What blows my mind is that they had THREE horse stalls in this tiny thing before 😳 now THAT would make me nervous. I don't even want to know the ventilation issues they had in there. Pfff..... But no worries it's stable and secure enough to be a chicken coop for a while longer. It's just far enough gone that we don't want to put money into it, either, though. If that makes sense.
