Well, I finally got fed up with my job. Our jobs are being threatened on almost a daily basis and they took our raises away, and our District Manager is an absolute nightmare. She has brought many of my coworkers to tears and has even caused one to up and quit just a a week after starting! Finding work is hard enough right now but throw in the fact that I have to drive a minimum of 20 miles if I want to get a minimum wage job that is higher than $6.50 an hour, and the search for work gets even more narrow. So, I travel 30 miles to get to Danville IL, and I've been with this company for a year now and sometimes it feels like I am driving into Hell each day cause there are mean e-mails and nasty phone calls daily, and the stress is just too much. My options were either continue moving sideways and not get anything better, just different, or look into schooling and see about getting a college degree. So, I looked into it and got info from a whole bunch of online colleges. I decided on one, talked with an advisor and tomorrow I am sending in my money for the application. If I can find solid financial aide, I will be starting school October 5th. I'm going for my Associates in Business Management. I am hoping and praying that with that under my belt I can get into a career as opposed to just having a "job". I am not really scared. The entire program should take 13 months, provided I don't fail any classes, and I get to graduate at Navy Pier in Chicago which I am happy about. I can invite my family and friends and have a real graduation. But this is a new stage in my life and I am glad to be moving forward instead of sideways for once. Every time things seem to slide downhill (like they have been doing all this year) an old Wynona Judd song lyric comes into my head "When you hit rock bottom you have two ways to go, straight up, or sideways". I've gone sideways long enough. It's time to go up. This is my first step.

Congratulations

To every end is a new beginning.

It's not really as hard as it seems, I'm 33 and have been going for a little over a year. I'll have my associate's in accounting in May of next year, if I can figure out how to do this stupid report!!

You need to have dedication though, it's nothing like high school!! But it's not that bad, just study and take good notes and you'll do fine

ETA: What college did you choose that required an application fee? I didn't have to do that with mine, and it's online as well.

i am so glad that you have made the choice to make a change in things, college is a real good choice in making moves up. I am 48 and start class on the 31st of aug. i will be doing all of my classes online at Florida Tech University, i will be going for
MBA Busmagement in Heath care. it will be a long hard road, but if anyone can we can. all you have to do is say I CAN DO THIS!!!! and it will happen if you work hard william

Doing the same thing here!! I'm 34 also. I went back about 2 years ago and have been taking it slow. I have 3 kids plus a job. I enjoy it. I'm also a MUCH better student than I was back in the day!

Good luck!

Awesome! Congrats!! I am finishing up school this academic year and then my hubby is thinking about going back. He is the same kind of position you are. He worked his way up to his position, but hates the company now (drama, etc). If he goes anywhere else, it will have to be a demotion because he needs his degree. So, at 39 (well, 40 when he starts), he is thinking starting over. A whole new line of work actually.

Change is good!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!
