I am happy to report that the 4 Cornish eggs I set last week are fertile with wiggly little babies! :celebrate

I didn't change anything in their environment or diet. I wonder if the Cockerel just figured out what he is doing, it is the right time of year, or if it is the new incubator. I've heard Cornish eggs are finicky. I wonder if the temps going all over the place and the humidity going too high had anything to do with it.

And 18-19 of the 28 Chocolate Orpington eggs I set are fertile and growing as well. Some of the CO eggs were infertile, but there were 2-3 eggs with a blood ring. When I move everything into the Brinsea so I can hatch my 5 mixed flock eggs, I'll have JUST enough room for them all, plus the Cornish Eggs I set this week.

:clap
was it the older eggs that didn't start developing? Some of those were likely brand new layers. Production increased, so for sure some new pullets had just started. That might explain some of the clears. :(

I lost 3 of the 4 they laid since I got them (2 clear, one blood ring). 3 from the newer dozen (2 clear, 1 blood ring) and 5 from the older dozen (3 clear, 2 blood rings).
I think I mis-counted..... My brain hurts. I'll update the numbers on Monday when I have to shift things around.

Today, I moved all the eggs that won't be hatching next week into the Brinsea and candled the 5 eggs that are supposed to hatch next week. I didn't candle them yesterday, even though I candled EVERY OTHER egg. All 5 still have little wigglers in them. YAY!

While all the eggs fit, I don't have much room for setting Cornish eggs next week. I have 7 Chocolate Orp eggs from the first dozen, 11 CO eggs from the second dozen, 1 egg from the 4 they laid since they got here, and 8 Cornish eggs. That is 27 eggs. The incubator holds about 28 eggs. If the Cornish give me 4 eggs next week. This could be a problem. I may have to do another aggressive culling of eggs to get the space I need. I want to set my eggs on Wednesday so I don't mess with my hatch routine down the line, but I don't know if I'll be able to cull enough eggs to make it work.... We shall see.
