Starting the chicken journey

Hi.
I joined to find assistance in working through the process of presenting a proposal to our town council to allow back yard chickens and potentially other “off limit” activities that could be done in a back yard to promote food security.

I live in a rural small town (<600) close to a small city in Saskatchewan. We are surrounded by farmland as well

I grew up on a mixed farm and we raised and grew almost everything on it. Often all the food we consumed was produced by us.

I believe our town has a huge opportunity to find a niche by providing homeowners a safe, convenient and inexpensive place for growing and raising food right in your own backyard. All while still able to live close to a larger centre and have remote work opportunities.

As well the quality of food produced will promote health.

I am also interested in a bee hive.

I have a very large yard (about an acre) and already have a garden and a Saskatoon Berry Orchard (137 bushes). I am looking to complete a miniature marshland replication which represents the natural landscape of our untouched areas.

I am looking for any help to kick this off.
