Hi. I just got some myself and I have them in a rubbermaid container with a heat lamp hanging on a wooden dowel. The temp for the first week is supposed to be 90-95 but I am just watching my chickens. They are walking around scratching, eating drinking then I think they must be fine. If the are snuggling they are too cold and if they are way away from the light they are too hot. Mine has wood shavings in the bottom.

how old are the chicks? if less than a week they need to be 95deg, then back the temp down 5deg for each week, keep clean food and water in with them always, use a red heat light. what kind of bedding do you have them on, i use pure pine shavings ( no ceder)and give them lots of love!!!!!!!! and get more chicks so we can help the chickens take over the world, and foghorn leghorn for presdent

Here is a great reference book, Gail Damerow's 'Storey's Guide to Chickens' is an excellent guide, as well as this web site an excellent source of information.

Also here are some other good sites and info.
