My husband joined in 96 and we married in 01. So the last twelve years i lived allover the place . Never longer than two years in the same house. Our oldest daughter has been to six different schools in 4 states. The kids dont know living in the same place forever. But this is going to happen!!! George is going to medically retire due to a multitude of health issues. Severe joint damage, diabetes, hiatal hernia, PTSD .... just to name a few. I always tell him if was a horse i'd have to shoot him.(and he jokes that his brain scan takes only ten seconds to scan)
That means we will buy our real home, no more moving. He wants to be pretty much self sufficient and live VERY rural in SE KY . He lets me get chickens, ducks ,geese.... He also wants me to raise some quail and eastern wilds to release. We will also get a good size garden about 40x60ft. Then in 2015 i might add a cow or goats... something we can milk and surplus offspring can be slaughtered.

Just had to share

Y'all will be so happy, can't wait for you!!!

Even better the hoe we are looking at got reduced by 4000$ yesterday!!! now its down to 53.000$ sits on 6.5 ac in its own hollow. No neighbors at all in sight!!!!

I am used to the Army telling us where to live. When to move. Living on a post is different than living out in the civilian world. All sudden its all over. My husband wont go to PT in the morning, come home late at night. I do not know my husband as a civilian, i only know George - the soldier. Our live is going to totally change. We are used to showing our IDs when we go through the gate or go shopping, that will be gone too.(not that a gate makes Ft Knox safer) I dont know yet if we will get the house or have to pick another one. The Army always gave us a place to live, they gave us a hospitals, shopping and safe schools and utilities .... A PCS move does not scare me, its just packing up and going to another duty station. The life without Army scares me. I know he will get retirement and Disability from the Army and more than likely social security disability from the state, but the whole money thing worries me.

Try to see it as a blessing. You have TIME to plan and get ready. Some folks have found their lives completely reversed with no warning. This is your chance to do all the things that need to be done so that you can be prepared to walk confidently into that new life! Just think, you've got 10 months..... you could make an entire new person in less time than that.

I once walked into Walmart when I was tired and almost showed the greeter my ID... because when I shopped on base, somebody standing by the door meant they were checking IDs

I retired after 20 years in the AF back in 2005. Personally, I love having my own place. Then again, I wasn't used to moving (my career field didn't move a lot, only 2 bases with B-52s). I hope you love it as much as I do! And please thank your husband for his service for me. I wish you all the best!

I have done that too Frosty. I whip my ID out all the time . I got really mad when sone cashier at walmart told me that out wasn't valid ID. Ugh. Hubby has appointments almost every day now. . the OT on his wrist that has very limit range of motion bending up/back worked backwards. Still the same angle bending up but down he now has 87% instead of the normal 80%. He might have to get a hiatal hernia fixed , his gall bladder removed and a carpal tunnel surgery is in the near future too.
