Starting to panic. is 80 degrees ok for night time temp?

I have 3, one month old chicks spending their first night outside in the coop. I have a light bulb out there for them. It should be in the mid 60's here tonight. The inside temp is @ 80 and it's about 9:30pm. They should be ok right? I'm starting to panic.

Sort of . The Buff Orpington is just about there. The EE the same but the light brahma has a ways to go. I just checked again. It's just under 80 now. I might go get them.

Is long as they have a bulb, some bedding, and each other to cuddle up
against than they are just fine.

they do not need any more heat, trust me they are just fine.

Thanks. I still wont sleep tonight but you've got to cut the cord at some point I guess. My poor son doesn't have a chance if I'm freaking over chickens.

This past winter I had a broody raise chicks in sub-zero temps in my un-insulated coop - I was AMAZED at how often those brand new babies were out running around not tucked under their mamas. (I did not supply a heat lamp, either) After seeing that, I never worried about it being too cold for new chicks!

I agree with the other posts. Not to worry, they will be fine. Ave temp for the month olds would be 75 to 80 degrees and the more birds less than that. They generate quite a bit of heat. Do a search. One member did a post on a thread on how much average (BTU's ?) of heat an average chicken produces.
