Yes, if I had to do it all over again I would start with SEXED hatchery chicks and raise them. Integrating new hens is very problematic and nerve-wracking. I think it would also be easier to find a good, non-aggressive roo once they are grown, and introduce him--you don't have the issue of raising a cute chick, falling in love, then having him turn into a meanie (heart-breaking). Finding a good selection of laying hens that were raised together might be possible, and easy!
