State a fact about yourself!

There was an Opossum in my barn tonight. It was eating my cat food (UGGHH!) I ran and got my dad and he came out and shot it. I think it's been living in my barn for about 3 days. I noticed it seemed like my 3 cats started eating twice as much cat food as usual, and I thought I heard something under my big wooden feed crate this morning. I didn't bother to check what it was because I thought it was just one of the cats chasing a piece of straw like they usually do. I'm just glad the opossum didn't wake up during the day and get my rooster. He spends all day out in the front of my barn, and that opossum could have easily gotten him. Good thing they are really stupid! Lol

Yea! I've had five opossums in the cat food bin. The first time there were three, second there was two. I soooo dislike opossums!! But I hate our fox that lives on our property! He has killed five of my beloved chickens before! :'( And I hate our raccoon that lives on our property! He killed five of my beloved White Silkie Bantams in 2 nights! :'(

You should set traps for them and shoot them. I don't tolerate animals that kill my chickens. You should be able to catch raccoons in a live trap with eggs (shell and all) and cat food. Works almost every time with coons and opposums. I read somewhere that someone caught a fox by tying raw chicken to the back of the cage. The first few night you may accidentally catch your cats, but they learn pretty quick to stay away from the traps! Just don't put anything that your cats love in the cage. That's why eggs with the shell work great. Also chicken feed works.

If you don't have a live trap, you should be able to get them at TSC. They are definitely worth investing in. We have caught MANY Raccoons and opposums with our cage. This way the trap doesn't kill (incase you catch your cats) and you can take care of them a safer way. Those raccoons and the fox will just keep killing your chickens. You may want to take care of them as soon as possible. It's a hard thing to do, but losing your chickens is harder. :(
