Where I live there are no hurricanes and the very, very, very very, very occasional tornado. But we are under constant threat of wild fires starting and also major, major, major flooding.

I have been through many hurricanes, including Katrina, which was HORRIBLE!! I live 10 min from the beaches of Bay St Louis Ms and the devistation was unexplainable!! My home was 5 mo old and had to start over, including my chickens and coop. Amazingly 2 survived and ended up 3 streets over at my parents property. My attic was untouched. Guess I'll be packing it with chickens if there's ever another bad one! I just pray there isn't and I never have to experience it again!

I have 3 parrots - a Red-fronted Macaw named Jade; a Congo African Grey named Ruby; and an Alexandrine Parakeet named Max (we thought she was a boy when we got her). Ruby is my girl and loves me best. She even tells me that she loves me and that I'm "so pretty".

Obviously I'm drawn to avians.
