Sorry about the bad picture but do you notice anything odd about this batch of chicks (one bird that is different), yes that reddish brown guy in the back right, he is an anomaly, these chicks should all be yellow! I kept the hens and the male separate for a week from the main flock before collecting eggs, but the only way to get that color was the hen being bred by a different male over a week prior! So there you have it, proof that bird semen can remain viable for over a week in the hens repro tract, it may be a ten percent chance but it is still possible! (For you genetics nerds this was a coturnix quail American pansy male crossed with pearl (Italian fee) hens, the red guy is a Rosetta or eb carrier, which is dominant to both colors).
