My name is Gabby, and I want my aunt’s flock. She had chickens and ducks for me, but my dad died, and we lost the farm we were moving to. I am visiting her farm during winter break. I hope to get her birds when I am a few years older.
I have another aunt that thinks you can die if you hold a chick. I don’t think I’ll be taking after her. LOL

Nice to meet you Gabby. I don't think you will die after you hold a chick. If so NO ONE would be around to post on Backyard Chickens. It does make sense to wash your hands before handling them- so they don't catch anything from humans. And also to wash hands after handling chickens (or other animals.)

Hi Gabby! I’m sorry to hear you lost your farm! But excited because it sounds like you love chickens just like us! Welcome to the board! Chickens are a little messy and smelly but unless your chicks are deadly killer chicks you won’t die! Hehe Welcome again!

My aunt’s chickens don’t smell. It’s the one thing everyone in our family comments on. My grandmother had chickens when she was young, but I think all old people did.
My chickens don't stink either. I think it has to do with keeping clean coops. But, there are times, like when a broody comes out for a break and leaves a big dump. That smells!!! :sick
