MIFChick, my only layer of the group (she's one of the older ones at 25 weeks), doesn't do the egg song. She says "urrr-urrrr-urrrrrh" loudly, but doesn't cackle or even do the after she laid song. She takes a while to lay and today I managed to catch her standing over her egg with the bloom still wet, but not a peep -- even when I took the egg.

So, is this normal behavior? She's an excellent layer and has laid 6 eggs from Sunday until today. BTW, she's an Easter Egger who lays awesome blue eggs.

I only have one hen who sings the 'egg song', most creep off and lay quietly.

However, when my 'singing' hen lays, everybody, including the boys, join in to make a tremendous din!

our girls just started laying to we thought they didnt sing either, but today they were doing the post egg song out in the run but there was no egg. We didnt know there was a pre eggsong weve never heard it. Maybe you could breed silent layers LOL. you could make a fortune.
