Took this at 4:00 a.m. this morning. That 12 inches on the right hand side is mine. Does Tucker sleep in my bed or do I sleep in Tucker's bed?

Quote: We were about 24 or so here this morning. Tonight is supposed to go down to 21 degrees. The trees are laced with a beautiful frost.

Yep, possible snow for me on Friday night into Saturday! I am so excited.

I plan to prepare because I have never driven in snow and don't plan to start now. Plus I don't have chains.

I will make sure we have all the groceries we need in case the power goes out, which it does all the time around here. Our house is all electric but we have a little generator to tun the fridge and incubator if it's going. No heat when the power is out. And we can't use our fireplace because it is missing some part inside the chimney. I should call someone out to fix that. I love a fire.
I think you should get a nice triple-walled chimney installed inside your old chimney, or something like that so you don't have to worry. I am not sure what they would recommend for that- I am sure stove companies would have a recommendation.

We have a round triple-walled metal chimney and it is a stand-alone chimney. It was installed by our stove guy (the one who sold us the stove) and I could not be happier with it. We have it inspected and swept by a chimney sweep. We literally had a hole cut in the ceiling/roof and the stove placed in front of the windows.

They make fireplace inserts now that are more like woodstoves and are much more efficient than a fireplace. A fireplace will actually make the rooms colder toward the outer part of the house...usually the bedrooms, due to the drafting of the air up the chimney. So the air gets sucked in through any gaps in the building, into the bedrooms.

see post #558 if you wouldn't mind- about the metal sleeve

We have a woodstove and the reason is that after so many power outages, and struggling with being cold, we decided to not suffer any more. (Frostbite nerve damage on my feet/toes after our heat pump failed due to health issues.)

For anyone with health issues it is a blessing, as it warms the joints and takes pain away. So I use the woodstove as my primary source of heat for the upstairs. My children love it too and love to sit near it, especially my youngest (10 y.o.). For anyone with kids who are young I recommend a metal gate/fence around the stove to prevent injuries.

Your 12 inches of space until he decides he needs that too. Better put a cot on that side so you can roll off onto it.

woodstoves are the best!! i absolutely LOVE my Morso -- it was a splurge to add it when i bought my house, but it's been SO worth it...

I miss my wood stove. I kept the one going all winter practically at house we lived in before moving here.

I love the Icelandic in the bedding bag! So typical of them, isn't it?!

YAY for the new camera, Kelly!
I think I am gonna get a new camera, too. I love the one I have, but I think I will upgrade to the later model.

Mary, I think you need another bed in that room - so you won't be disturbing Tucker there in his bed.

Kathy I know the newer version has a stronger zoom but what other features? The reviews for the 50x zoom aren't rely good. I have been thinking about updating my Canon 1D Mark III to a 5 D but that thing is too expensive. I am going to send mine in for repairs and hopefully it will work better.

I just posted this on there Managing Your Flock thread:

My husbands's daughter has neighbors with 20 chickens. Last night they worried about the chickens being cold, so they placed a space heater in the coop. The coop burned to the ground and every chicken died in the fire. Please think carefully about heating in areas with animals. There are worse things than cold chickens. RIP chickens.

Sad.

We are both healing: Eddy caught his foot in a gap in a rebar support; he seemed much better and I put him back in the run. Now his foot is swollen and he puts very little weight on it. And yes, you guessed right he is resting -- in my bed.... next to me.
I am getting over exhaustion -- peeling myself out of my past (turned abusive) relationship...
