Stella's Social Club

I got out of bed at 5:00 a.m, went out to the coop in my jammies, grabbed the orange Icelandic rooster off the roost, put him in a cardboard box, taped it up, put him in the garage, and dropped him off at the feed store on my way to my mammography appointment this morning.

He had become a non-stop crower, day and night, and by 5:00 a.m, I had had enough! Tonight, we sleep!

Good for you! Now he knows that beauty is not everything!

Thanks Ron! It was empowering. I didn't even wake Michael up to help. I just grabbed a flashlight and headed out. The rooster freaked and flied around but I got two hands on him and refused to let go. As pretty as he is, the feedstore people said he's be sold in heartbeat this morning. Hopefully the new owner has the coops father away from the house than we do!

I don't really think about them selling them for meat because they charge $12.00 and you can buy a whole cleaned chicken cheaper than that. But if you anyone knows differently, please that to yourself.

Of the 8 eggs that broody mama is on - I have 6 chicks, 1 dead (she killed- pecked to death), and 1 egg still there. I will check that egg tonight and see if it is viable. They are in the 4X4 storage room in the layers coop. That little room has sure come in handy a few times! It is suppose to be a rainy week here, starting tomorrow. After that, I will let them out. I love watching broody mamas with their babies. I will get pictures some time soon.

Pathology reports today - all is well! Everything negative!

Great Job! You can drop roosters off at your feed store?

Huzzah! When danny boy went to a new home i danced a little dance. He is very happy and does not compete with other boys so he is MUCH quieter. And he has his own girls, they're are LESS, but he is happier. And I no longer am breeding a rooster who's children want to be up at 3 am!
