Congrats on the goat appraisal! I didn't even know you could get that done. I am going to get Laverne and Shirley appraised. How many points for sleeping on a picnic table all day?

Lots of points for cuteness.

Are all these predators people are seeing out in California due to the fires, or is it normal?

This is the driest year on record(since the 1850s) for California. The predators have to go where the water is--this is normal for late summer into fall but worse this year.

Remember, we had a dry winter and spring--getting less then 5% of normal rain. Add to that the fact that it does not rain, except for one or two scattered thunderstorms from late may to October. Yes, no rain-the year to date total from 7/1 to today is 0.00 inches of rain. It did not rain in May or June either so no rain for the last 5 months.

Wow, that is dry.

And we've had the wettest, foggiest summer I can remember. It was awful. Makes me very happy to see it go.

Mary, you inspired me to change my avatar. Not sure I'll keep this one, though. That is my Pocket Penny, my lovebug Belgian D'Anver hen as a pullet. I loved my Suede beyond reason, but he's been gone one full year this month (hard to believe). Guess I need a fresh look for awhile. I keep one of his super long sickle feathers hanging on my car visor (23" long) .

This is Penny now, at 2 1/2 years old. She turned white bearded and hasn't laid an egg in a year for some reason.

That is my DH holding Penny in the older photo of her. I rarely allow myself to be photographed so I'm usually the one holding the camera. Wish I had a better one. Though this is better than my last one, the slow shutter speed makes me want to chuck it into the compost pile at times.

Ladyhawk has a beautiful teenage daughter who can model her crocheted items for photographs. I have only myself and the chickens (hmm, wonder if Rita would model a cowl for two seconds for a photograph, lol?) so I have to resort to taking photos of a turtleneck on a hanger or ones like this, which didn't work with a shirt. This hat was photographed on a candle holder, then on myself, but you see how much of me I left in the pic, don't ya?

My original offering of this hat was on a candle lamp. Which do you think works better? Or should I put it on grumpy old DH? hehehe
