My friend has become lazy in her cooking I see...opening a can Cyn? Really? For shame.

Gee, wonder why I'm too tired to cook or care? Hmm, let's see... opening a business and stocking the store ring a bell, hmm?

Besides, if my own butternut squash had done more than flower this year, I might have opened one of our own canned creations.

You did a great job there, RInda! It looks wonderful.

We had chicken for supper, too! KFC style.

Son, Tyler, came out with his girlfriend and her little girl, to celebrate her birthday. Karma turns 5 tomorrow. She is a cute little redhead. DH was outnumbered last night, for sure. All redheads here, except for him..... Me (rusty now, but it use to be red), Tyler, Taylor, Karma, and Kayson!

Ya'all have a nice Sunday. I think we are gonna drive to Joplin to look at a Polaris.

I am going to vent some so bare with me please.

I ordered black penedesenca from Sandhill before I was in contact with other breeders ( now I am )
it took a year to get my chicks. as they grew I ended up getting rid of all the roosters as they did not look correct. I did however keep 3 really nice hens . ( well 4 but 1 died )

I got a rooster from Ron ( now I think that was from a dark egg at least )
however I am pretty sure the hens I got from Sand Hill are the culprits. I am getting Light cream /brown eggs from that pen and some blue eggs ( U of A's and a ameraucana ee too ) in there but no dark eggs.

I am hoping hoping they just have not started to lay yet as the penedesenca seem to take a little longer to lay. But thinking not.
Ron are yours laying yet from the rooster hatch? the hens I have are a week to a week and a half older than the rooster.

I have one pullet from the batch that hatched. Being Penedesencas from Florida I am happy they hatched and that I hatched a pullet and a cockerel. She is not laying yet but is starting to get red in the face and her comb is getting bigger. They did hatch from dark eggs. I have a breeding quad of Partridge Penes that are younger so they may not start laying eggs until next year. They are very pretty though. I also have one Wheaten Pene pullet that hatched with the Partridge Penes. She is very nice too.

Since SandHill is a Preservation place they may not have cared about the egg color too much. That makes me sad.

This is the description from the Sandhill catalog of Black Pendescencas - sounds like they are particular about egg color. I have found them to be very clear in their catalog about both the good and not so good points of their offerings.

Black Penedescenca (MB): Black Minorca-like chicken with a unique single comb that has almost a crown at the back side. They lay a dark, dark brown egg. Their behavior is very flighty and is similar to a Leghorn. They have an unusual comb - - - single in the front with multiple lobes at the rear. Our strain tends to not have the pure white ear lobes. We strive to select for darkest egg first, comb type second. Our males tend to have bright white ear lobes and the proper combs. Hens tend to have less white in ear lobes and not always the best combs. This breed is not yet listed in the APA Standard.
