Beautiful momma and chicks!! Nice variety too!! Is she one from the Easter Eggs I sent, by chance? She looks a lot like a pullet I have that hatched this spring.

She hatched with Drekki Jr.

Boston is getting 8 eggs a day from his Icelandics and they are all under Drekki Jr... so I have a source for MORE!

Been outside a lot today. Started building my brooder in the little yellow house. It is going to be so nice! We also put up Christmas lights around our deck railing. Michael put ur big tree upstairs in front os a window and I decorated it. I put a smaller tree in the parlor and decorated it too. I hung garland on the banisters and wreaths at two of the exterior doors. I still have three more to go but I am out of wreaths! I hope to finish the brooder tomorrow.

I received the Brinsea high intensity candler today. What a piece of cr*p! It is going back tomorrow. My flashlight works better than that thing and the risk of breaking the egg is a lot less. They advertise that you can hook it up to a web cam and watch the chiks move on your computer. I thought it would have a port or something to connect the camera. Oh no, you just lay the camera on top of the scope where your eyeball would be if you were looking. I di find out that two of my sizzles and three of my dark layers didn't survive the 113 degree temp sike during the time they were on the generator power. So I am down to 4 sizzles and 6 dark egg layers. I don't even know for sure if they are still alive but they seem to have a chick in them versus the others that did not. So we lock down tomorrow.
Sorry you lost the chicks!

I have been using the high intensity candler for about 10 months now and love it. Mine came with two rubber adapters that protect the egg. I have never hurt an egg with it yet! You do need to use fresh batteries.

It clearly shows the veins at 5 days.

Dar I think those chicks are plotting something against their adoptive mother. Those two in the front look shifty to me. She is a sweet looking girl.

I am soooooooo glad to hear Ida is a happy mama!

Did I tell you that both of my white (male) chicks are "paint?" YES, both of them! I took them out of the (heated) Nella brooder this week and let them outside. They act like they are freezing, and it is nearly 70.

The painted boys are very handsome. You've seen a lot more chickens then I have, but every one I've had has recovered from that broken wing look, and those hens are just sweet looking!

You're beautiful heritage flocks are going to make me forget all about land races, except Icelandics, and move to good old USA heritage breeds.

Thank you. I truly love my Barred Rocks..... LOVE them! This particular pullet has the best barring I have ever seen. I am just worried about her.

These girls have been hanging out just outside my basement door lately.
