Stella's Social Club

LOL I told my kids the chick in the video was saying, "Merry Christmas!"  I then told my 5 year old she needed to go train our solo chick (hatched this morning but the others aren't out yet) to say Merry Christmas, too.  She just gave me The Look.  Then my 3 year old disappeared and came back a few minutes with the chick, "Mommy, he won't say it!"

That's so cute. Kids..gotta love it.

So far I've pretty much left them alone, since they're hard to see through. Can't really see any veining. Although, they're getting to the stage that you can even tell with a dark egg. The egg will start to look dark, a non-developing egg, to me they kind of glow when you candle them.

I've got eggs of my own in there, some are shipped and about half look good. My own eggs in there (WCB polish) are all looking good. So I know things are fine with the incubator.

lol yeah I never could see any in my crele's awhile back. They just got darker and you could see a air sack. then they hatched.

Well, I am already out of the New Year's Day hatch. I set 8 of my cream legbar eggs but none were fertile. That's ok. I have too many already. I just wanted to see if the color was better on this new group with my new rooster. Apparently he isn't doing his thang quite yet.

Sorry to hear that Mary. Is he in the pen next to Isi? Maybe you need to move him so he can get some "learnin'" from the master!

My Blue Wheaten Ameraucana roo that hatched at Easter is either gay or hasn't figured it out yet.
The advantage at this point in time is that he is NOT crowing, but as soon as he does, he and the girls head to Heber with Boston's flock.

He is gorgeous and worse yet, the four hens I have for him have only laid one egg in the past 5 months.

Once Ida is done brooding the little EEs she is now taking care of, I'm putting Geoffry the III back in with his own girls away from the Icelandics and layers in the big coop to see if they can all get their groove on.

He is right next to Isi! But I just checked the calendar and he is only 21 weeks old.
I have an Icelandic cockerel, Elska's brood hatched in mid-August, that is doing the deed when he can...

..
don't know if any would be fertile since I'm not trying to hatch anything and the "big guys" are also present. The days are short....but soon they will be turning around and getting longer!

None of my Icelandic hens have started back laying since their molt but all the pullets from this year that are old enough are.and so are the GNHs from Kathy.

Mahonri, Is he the only male you have? I think cockerels that don't have competition mature later. That is speculation on my part, based on my own and the experience of friends that only have a single male. Solo males seem to develop all that testosterone later. Also, my cockerel mentioned above in the post to Mary, didn't show hardly a sign of being a male until the flock was thinned down and his dominant brother was gone. Now he is all about being a C

I'm sure you'll have tons of fertile eggs for the Easter Hatchalong!
