Stella's Social Club

We have a good news, bad news going on here. The good news is our doe kidded this evening right on her due date. Here she is with her little buckling.

The bad news is her 3 doelings were all still born. I don't understand it, they all looked good, they were full term, no problem with delivery. But non of them showed any signs of life. Very sad.

I had a dismal hatch on my dark eggs. Only got three chicks. One of them has a funky foot so I have a booty on him. He walks on tip toes. Good grief. I think I am just going to bite the bullet and buy chicks.

Right now I have 18 cream legbar eggs in the incubator and 11 of my project eggs. I am excited for this hatch. Oh lord Brinsea, don't fail me now!

I also need to set some Isbars.

When I was feeding the emus this morning I noticed that Louis has a big bare path on his back with feathers growing in. There is also a large hematoma present. I have no idea what happened to him. He seems none the worse for it so I will just keep an eye on him. There isn't much for them to get hurt on out in the pasture. The shelter sits up off the ground. I wonder if he rolled under it then slammed his back when he tried to stand up. It definitely doesn't look like damage from pecking. I'll try to post a picture tomorrow.

Is that because there wasn't enough room for them.?
