Stella's Social Club

I am probably going to be throwing away a lot of food tomorrow. My guest list is dwindling as we speak. So, I have decided to stop hosting the family holidays. The lack of people being willing to RSVP, and then the last minute cancellations after I have spent hundreds of dollars and spent two days cooking, have broken me. I just can't do this anymore. I went from possibly twelve to probably five tomorrow. Stick a fork in me, I'm so done! Next year I am going on a cruise. I spent more than the cost of a cruise on food this year for people who never showed up. Feed yourselves next year people! I'll be at the midnight buffet!

Hey! Let's plan this cruise together! I do not celebrate holidays, and since I am retired - well, heck, I have lots of free time!

Actually, I want to go to Israel.

Frustrated this morning. I am contemplating a huge downsizing of my flocks. About half my birds don't roost, choosing to sleep in the nest boxes instead. Most of the boxes are unusable due to poop buildup. I have closed them off with chicken wire so they can't get in them. I added two of these plastic boxes in the big coop. Worked well for about a week until they figured out how to pop the little perch down at night after I flipped it up. This morning both boxes are full of poop and I have to unscrew them from the wall to clean them out. Plus they broke two eggs in there, adding to the poop. I give up. I am going to pull the offenders out next week and have my friend pick them up. Does no good to have chickens if the eggs are too poopy to eat or sell. We have sporadically had birds that didn't roost, but this is ridiculous. We have more than enough roost space in every coop without crowding.

Once I get rid of the non-roosting birds I'll clean all the nest boxes out and try it again. If they start sleeping in them again then they will be walled off permanently with plywood and they'll have to lay eggs on the floor. The eggs can't be any more disgusting that way than they are now. I think this is worse than trying to eradicate the egg eaters in the Isbars last year. I decimated my Isbar flock in the process.

I have never had this problem before. BUT NOW I DO !
What is the deal with this anyway?!

, So far I am down one as of last night. I have a 20lb turkey in the oven. Sweet potato casserole, green salad(a sweet type of congealed thing the kids love) collards, and a hugh thing of homemade from scratch dressing and gravy to finish. We'll also have rolls. Then there are desserts. Whew!

It would be nice if I felt like doing it. I am still having the irregular heart thing and ? pinched nerves in my neck Or stroke symptoms. The Dr. is not sure at this point and I have given up on a quick diagnosis. We are in an under served area and seeing a specialist may take three or 4 months.
I am still having a Christmas despite it all. Happy Christmas everyone Love you all.

I hope you feel better. Pace yourself. I am down four more as of a few minutes ago. Finally stopped crying, pulled myself together and I am getting things done. Definitely need to reevaluate how we spend the holidays and the money. We'll be eating dried out beef tenderloin for a week!

Merry Christmas Everyone.

We are having issues with that, too, now. When we moved here, we found a pile of these flexible plastic soffit panels, no idea why since they were not used on this house, but anyway, we took to putting one in each nestbox at roost time, sprinkled with some pine shavings, and if they sit on top of them, no big deal. Each morning, we remove them, dump the poop off. prop them against the wall, and voila! Clean nests for the day. It is a routine, of course, but beats the heck out of poopy eggs. And being plastic, they are easily cut with tin snips to whatever size you need.

Oops, forgot picture:
