Nice job on the canning. Go away deer.

No canning, just freezing. I put the marinara in freezer bags and laid them flat. I put the pesto in small freezer jars and poured olive oil on top so it doesn't turn brown. I made pan-seared halibut on Sunday and topped it with pesto. It was one of the best things I have ever eaten! Michael devoured his then finished mine. It was so good that I bought more halibut and I am going to make it again tomorrow!

Ooh, Ooh, forgot the Brabanter hatch update. Today is hatch day and two chicks were out and dry this morning. I had to open the door because the water tray was full and overflowing. The humidity pump has run continuously. I carefully walked it to the bathroom and poured the water out without spilling it on the carpet. Whew.

I looked in the hatch tray quickly and two are out and fluffed up and one more is pipped. There were a total of ten viable eggs at lockdown. The best I can get the humidity during lowdown has been 56%. That is with the pump running full time and an extra tray of wet sponges on the middle shelf. The eggs lost 14% of their starting weight during the first 18 days which is a little too much. So the 44% humidity during the first 18 days was a little low. I was hoping to get it to 65% during lockdown but that just isn't happening.

Michael told me to buy a tabletop incubator for hatching and just use the Brinsea cabinet for incubating. Just don't want to do that. I still have the two Janoel incubators stored in the basement. I might try using one of them for hatching again. I just put four Pavlovskya eggs in the incubator so I could test it when they get to lockdown.

Deer!!!! This yr. they got my sweet potato vines, No potatoes. The ground hog ate lots of tomatoes, no sauces or canned tomatoes. No beans because of the groundhog too. Next yr. I will put up fencing on my raised boxes!!!!!!

Take that animals. Don't get me wrong I love to watch them but they have a national forest across the road to eat in. Sigh!!!

Sorry about your garden. The deer are certainly persistent. Jeeze. At least we don't have ground hogs around here, right Kelly?

Ran into a neighbor at the grocery and he said they found a dead mangled chicken on the high school track behind my house and thought it was mine. Not. But they have seen fox three times in the last two weeks 2-4 at a time!

X2! Haha that's exactly what my goats say to me EVERY time I go out there....

Next project was converting the old baby crib to two benches, a goat feeder, and a bike rack. Got 2 of 3 done. The benches will be very cute once painted and some cushions made for them. Perfect for watching for the bus with my kiddos! Total cost: $10 (decorative legs for the front of the benches)








I think I'll paint them a reddish plum to complement the front door. It won't show dirt and stains as quickly as white! AND I think I have a $5 can of oops paint laying around that's just the right color.


My 8yo had to have 4 cavities filled today. Poor kid. I've had to start brushing his teeth for him once a week, he's just not doing a good enough job. At least I sent him to school with a milkshake for lunch that's got to make him feel a little better!
