Stella's Social Club

Started cleaning the coop today and realized that the littles have been nesting on the lid of the antique nest boxes and pooping between it and the wall between the studs.

Yuck.

So I took down the antique nest boxes and installed a triplex that I bought at the feed store. I also had to make a slanted roof and close off the sides with triangles of wood so they couldn't get back in there. I added the signs that had been outside at the last house just to make it extra slippery! Ha! Gotta girls! Hopefully.

And I thought I was done remodeling chicken coops!

My Isbar's comb is getting red agin and my Welliie looks like she is getting close too. I would love to see a green egg in one box and a terra cotta egg in the other tomorrow! :celebrate

Got a little rain this morning and our temp was 57, one degree lower than Lake Tahoe! Crisp and cool with the scent of a fresh rain! Love it. I have a beef brisket in the crockpot for beef drip sandwiches tonight and I am getting ready to paint furniture. I think autumn has arrived!

Update on the littles: All three were up on a roost last night. One was on the top roost with the big girls and the other two were on the lower roost. Judy was alternating pecking the one on the roost next to her on the head and reaching down to peck the two on the lower roost on the head! Maybe the problem is Judy? Maybe they slept on the back of the nest box to protect their heads. They'll work it out I'm sure. Or Judy will die of old age. One way or another, they'll get to sleep sooner or later.

Hurricane Patricia passed through a few nights ago at 3 am, waking most of the town with high winds and driving rain. When I woke up I could not at first figure out why, then I saw the tall cedars behind the house tossing wildly. By morning almost every single leaf had been blown off the trees - so autumn is finishing out here.
