Mary I am so sorry about the turkeys. It's so much harder to lose "sweeties," than "meanies." It's been fun watching them grow and hearing about them. Hope you are able to save some.

Oh, and we have sheep now. We have no idea where we got them, they have just been here the last two days. They spend the night, poop all over my deck, eat all morning, and leave midday.

They probably heard about the treats here at the Buck 'n Run Ranch!

Mary has two little lambs.....their fleece not white as snow..............

Thanks for taking the time to read this far. I feel like we learn from each other's mistakes which makes me a huge asset to the forum! I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Keep my babies in your thoughts please. They are so sweet. Even sick, they manage to get to me and peck my toes when I go in the yard.

Mary, I'm so sorry about the turkeys. Yes, they say if you haven't blackhead in the past, you'll be fine. My turkeys have been living with my chicks from the time they hatched/arrived.

Your sheep are cute, obviously they heard you were a soft touch. I'm such a "feeder" by nature, I always expect to run across a wanted poster with my picture with a note to animals "Have you seen this woman? Find her for an easy life".

One thing that made me laugh today- we hatched out some lakenvelder eggs we had bought just for kicks, only 2/9 hatched but one looks all wrong for lakenvelders- take a look! Big humpy head, huge nostrils, well-feathered legs and toes, and a beard? Funniest chick I have ever seen! Any guesses? The egg looked right for a Lakenvelder but the chick is all wrong so I am guessing a cross with strong genes! Yes I know he has toe problems I have a boot on him now, in the morning I may need to splint his legs, too. He had to be helped out of his shell and I don't know if this was caused by or perhaps caused the leg problem. How do you splint a feathered leg without pulling all the feathers out when you need to change the splint? I can't help saying "him" with a big beard like that!

Is it a silkie? Feathered legs/beard/vaulted skull (means it will have a crest). The thing I can tell you for sure, not a lakenvelder, not even a cross. If you do want lakenvelders, get in touch, I have two lines of them.

Mary, I'm so sorry for your turkeys. We have 2 that have to go outside soon, and I don't think I will be able to keep them away from chicken here, too small a space. But we have wild turkeys that forage in our yard, so I'm hoping if it was a problem Id know. I will be keeping hawk eyes on the.

I have a question for you people. I sold a older chicken that was too red for my silkie pen to a lady about 7-8 weeks ago. She layed a single egg and hasn't layed anything since. She is running around, not broody, doesn't seem to be egg bound. She was NOT a stellar layer, but I don't know how much she was laying since I have 4 girls who's eggs look the same. Can a move stop a chicken from laying entirely? Could it be something else? Is there anything I can do to help this poor woman and her eggless chicken?
