Had another swarm call but they left as I was entering the back yard and flew right over the neighbor's roof!

JP your so dang lucky it is already your swarm season. Still another month or two until it is here. Building 4 nucs sometime here before then. And adding some more hives to the apiary. Just got the new stand built today.
Glad to see your season is starting off pretty well though.

I saw that one, but I didn't think she was big enough. Thanks for the lesson!

Could be the shadow over her or the picture, but that is her. Also some are larger than others, that could be a virgin queen. If so once she mates her abdomen will lengthen.

Sam, yes, spring is here, of course we have a cold front coming in tonight, go figure!

Man, I came out of winter with 31 hives & now I'm already up to 37. Its going to get interesting.

Here's a question for you. A friend trapped a swarm from in a tree branch several days ago. Yesterday they moved the bees from the trap to her hive. There are bees going in and out of the hive like normal, but a small group (about the size of a softball), has congregated where the hive top meets the hive body. What could be causing them to do that? She is wondering if it is a different swarm or something.
