Wow, this is a really interesting thread (as ChickyLaura hits "subscribe to this thread")!

I am interested in learning about beekeeping, but since I live in town and my neighbor is allergic to beestings I can't do that here. My mom said I could at her house but I haven't done anything about it yet... One of these years I will, but with 2 teenagers and a 9 year old (who thinks she's 18) I'm kept pretty busy.

Anyway, thank you very much for sharing these pictures and information with us! Very very cool!!!

I hate bees! No offense...but...they are dangerous lil fellas! Call me a wimp,or whatever...but those boogers' stings HURT!!! haha

JP that's cool but how do you deter bees from setting up shop if you don't want them? Last October we had thousands flying in our small front yard. I think they may be close by or in the hollow hickory tree in the front....I don't want them, and don't know any local keepers.....what do you suggest we do that won't harm them? Is there a deterent that's safe for them?

You will have to reapply though and this could get quite expensive.

Last option, simply enjoy them for what they're worth.

Yes, if a swarm sets and is in cluster, by all means please call a beekeeper.

As for bees simply visiting flowers, that's what they do.
