(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Not new to chickens, we tried to raise some when we lived in town but ended up being served papers so we had to get rid of them. We now have moved since then and have started with chickens again this year!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Cannot remember the exact number but we are close to 50. We bought some New Hampshire's from a friend, received a mixture from another friend who was getting out of the business and bought a few as well from Rural King. We have also been incubating eggs all year to help grow our flock.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Lavender, New Hampshire, Cinnamon Queens, Black Sex Link, and a few more that i do not remember lol
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Simply raising them. I love seeing them out in the yard and fields and knowing that they are providing for my family.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Farming, hunting, & running around with the kids
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We live in West Virginia and are working on building a lifestyle that is more self sufficient (at least with the food we eat). We would like to get to a point that we are raising our own beef, eating our own chickens/eggs, and canning most of our own vegetables.
