Stethoscope vs. candling?

You may have a tough time with a human stethoscope on an egg. You are hearing the turbulence of blood pumped into our aorta which is a pretty "high" pressure system when compared to a early developing chick. By the time you might be able to hear the chick, you'll likly be able to easily see with even a cheaper flashlight.

480$ and they are awesome! I was going to put it on my xmas wish list when I thought it was 160$ then when I saw the actual price I said ouch...momma better not!

I have one and it wasn't that much. I love it! it does have it's draw backs in that you can't check eggs for heart beats until they are 8 days along, you have to have them turned just right to pick up a heartbeat when they are close to hatching and they don't always pick up a heartbeat on a chick that is due. I have opened eggs thinking the chick died and it was very much alive. I then resealed the egg with an egg shell and it hatched fine. I would have never purchased this for my chickens but I have it for another reason.
it's called a chick buddy and since I ordered mine from canada a few yrs back, it was less then $200 us dollars.

I guess the LED flashlight will have to do. I have been using a Mag Light and it is ok but very hard on blue/green/dark brown eggs. It seems those are all I ever hatch.

I have a littmann stethoscope, and tried listening to the eggs before. Very hard to do, mainly because of the size and shape fo the eggs and the round flat drum of the stethoscope. I am sticking with candling to check development and the floating egg in water for darking eggs.

Actually, that is an ultrasound. A doppler that i am talking about only uses soundwaves to detect heartbeats, not images.
