Sticking chicks under broody.

Farm Frenzy- Maybe you could post pictures under What gender or Breed is this? I'm sure someone would know.

cjexotic- Sounds like you have a good set up with those hens. I hope mine will do so well. When my silkies were about 4 months old I did put other chicks with them and they were fine and covered the babies but they didn't make the noises to call and teach like my heavy broody did with her chicks.

I thought about doing this & then decided it might be better to put some pipped eggs under her, so this morning & stuffed 4 eggs under her & she accepted them & I hope they hatch.

I really didn't want to come out in the morning to find dead babies, so hopefully the pipped eggs will work ????

She has been broody for a good week & a half - 2 wks. I checked this evening when out for chores & the one is really pipping quite well...I hope she is ok with this! She seems to be just sitting there keeping them warm & growling at me when I get close.

Ok, update....

I checked lat last night & 2 chicks had hatched. I lifted her up a bit & of course she growled & one peeked out at me....very cute! Couldn't see the other & didn't want it to chill, but 2 eggs were broken so I threw those out. I haven't been out yet this morning for chores yet, but hoping that the other 2 are hatched....will let you know. Oh & the worst time to slip pipped eggs to a momma when we got SNOW!!!! UGH!!!

So obviously this experiment worked for me! Whew!

Will let you know if the other 2 hatched.

further update....she hatched all four....so cute! I let her out this morning & covered the babies while she was out big & fluffed & she is so funny then put her back in after she pooped & ate a bit.

Yay!

Please PLEASE post some pics if you can - broodies with babies are the cutest!!
