Hey everybody I need advice
One of my chicks had problems hatching so I assisted him after about 24 hours.
I put him in the incubator and he’s been grooming himself in there but he doesn’t fluff up like the others. It’s been 48 hours now so I had to put him in the brooder and he’s been feeding and drinking but he seems wobbly and won’t lay down. His fluff is stuck in many places and hes dry and hard..
He has done groomed himself some but I was wondering if I should intervene and actually bathe him? And when I do, do I then put him in the incubator to dry or back in the brooder?

Get a warm wet cloth and rub him down. Then I would dry him by gently rubbing him with a dry cloth. Then I would put him in the bator for half an hour and then put him in the brooder.

If it is hard gunk dried on it then I would agree to wipe it down. Dont worry too much about the wobbly walking. Assisted chicks take more time to get moving. Since they never ran the marathon of hatching on their own they don't have the endurance and strength of their siblings yet. I had to assist a chick the last hatch. Took her a while to catch up with her siblings, she was also the youngest. But now she is running around and one of the cutest chick in the bunch ;)

Won't really hurt them, but better if they fluff up.

I've found that a soft dry toothbrush can help 'preen' the dried gunk off.
and/or gentle 'fingernail preening'.
